The following are some photographs of Wedge-tailed Shearwaters. These photographs were taken off Lord Howe Island in the Pacific Ocean, but they are seen in fair numbers on late spring and summer pelagic trips from Hillarys. They are far more common further north at the Abrolhos Islands and off the Pilbara coast.
There were a few nesting colonies on Lord Howe Island. They returned to their burrows shortly after dark each evening. This is a memorable experience just to listen to their calls as they return.
