Southern Giant-Petrel (Macronectes giganteus)

The following are some photographs of a Southern Giant-Petrel taken on the Hillarys pelagic in July 1997 and July 1999.

The following are some photographs of a white morph Southern Giant-Petrel taken on the Hillarys pelagic in August 2002.

Southern Giant-Petrels are commonly seen off the southern and south west coast of Western Australia in winter and early spring.  They are usually only seen fairly close to the coast such as the north mole at Fremantle Harbour, Cape Naturaliste and near The Gap at Albany.
