Roseate Tern (Sterna dougallii)

The following are photographs of Roseate Terns at Wooded Island in the Abrolhos Islands in November 2001.  There was a colony of about 1,000 breeding.

None had completely red bills, and none had the distinct roseate sheen.  They seemed to only have a clutch of one egg laid directly on a scrape in the shell grit in amongst the loose coral.
