Flesh-footed Shearwater (Puffinus carneipes)

The following are some photographs of Flesh-footed Shearwaters.  These photographs were taken off Lord Howe Island in the Pacific Ocean, but they are seen in large numbers on late spring and summer pelagic trips from Hillarys.  They are the common shearwater off the south coast.

There were many nesting colonies on Lord Howe Island.  They returned to their burrows shortly after dark each evening.

The following is a photograph of a Flesh-footed Shearwater on a pelagic trip off Hillarys in April 1997.
