Rare summer migrant to Kimberley.  Two seen at Derby sewage ponds in January 1995.  One found dead at Argyle Diamond Mine.  Possibles seen at Kingston Rest Station, Ivanhoe Crossing near Kununurra.  Six seen at Ashmore Reef in November 1999.

Fairly common to common throughout WA from late winter to early summer.  Seen at Kununurra, Argyle Diamond Mine, Broome, Murchison River bridge, Cue, Flynn Road, Dryandra State Forest, Stirling Ranges, Fitzgerald River, Albany, Eyre Bird Observatory, Wiluna.

Brush Cuckoo

Cacomantis variolosus

Fairly common in the Kimberley during the wet season at Kununurra, Argyle Diamond Mine and Broome.  Also seen at Willare Bridge and Mary River in late June 199?.  In December and January they can call throughout the night.

A wonderful call.  Very common in the south west especially during late winter and spring.  Seen at Wungong Gorge, Dryandra State Forest, Stirling Range, Fitzgerald River, Waychinicup, Torndirrup, One Tree Bridge near Manjimup, Boranup near Augusta, Eyre Bird Observatory.

Fairly common in the Gascoyne region near Carnarvon.  Seen at Carnarvon, Carbla Station and Hamelin Pool in January 1996.  Seen at Koolan Island in the Kimberley in May 199?.  Seen at the Eyre Bird Observatory in September 1990.

Common in the Kimberley especially in the wet season.  Seen at Broome, Argyle Diamond Mine, Kununurra.  Several seen on the islands off the Pilbara coast in October 2000.  Harder to find in the south west but seen at St Ronans Reserve near York and the Stirling Ranges.  Seen in the Gibson Desert

Fairly common in the south west especially during late winter and spring.  Seen at Wungong Gorge, Bungendore State Forest, Stirling Range, Two People's Bay, Torndirrup, Waychinicup.  One at Argyle Diamond Mine in January 2000.

Uncommon in Kimberley mangroves.  Seen in January 1995 at Derby, Barred Creek.  Reported at Quarry Beach, Crab Creek.  A juvenile was being fed by Mangrove Gerygones at the Kimberley Coastal Camp in August 1997.

Occurs in the Kimberley and the Pilbara.  Common at Kununurra, Argyle Diamond Mine, Kimberley Coastal Camp, Derby, Broome.

Rufous Owl

Ninox rufa

Very rare in WA.  Reported in Kimberley rainforest patches at Mitchell Falls, Bachsten Gorge, Point Springs.  A pair seen in riverine vegetation near the Kimberley Coastal Camp.

Widespread but not usually common.  Common at Anna Plains Station in April 1996.  Seen at Argyle Diamond Mine, Sale River, Hyden, Cheyne's Beach.  Reported at Nallan Station, Eyre Bird Observatory.

Widespread but difficult to find.  Common at White Wells Station in April 1996.  Seen at Dryandra, Stirling Ranges, Anna Plains Station, Argyle Diamond Mine.  Heard at Emu Rocks.
