Seen breeding at Sugarloaf Rock where it can be reliably seen (especially in the afternoon) from late September to May.  Seen at the Abrolhos Islands, Adele Island, pelagic trip to Ashmore Reef.

Few records for WA.  Two seen at Ashmore Reef in November 1999.  One seen at the Exmouth sewage ponds in October 2000.

One reported at Eco Beach south of Broome in December 1999.  This is the first Australian record other than at Christmas Island.

Morus serrator

Very common off the south and south west coast at least as far north as the Abrolhos Islands.  Less common in summer. Seen on all pelagic trips from Hillarys.

~150 pairs seen breeding on Adele Island in May 1993.  Seen west of Adele Island in October 1996.  A few seen near Ashmore Reef and at Adele Island in November 1999.

Not many records for WA.  A few seen at Adele Island in May 1993.  One seen near Scott Reef in October 1996.  A few seen near Ashmore Reef in November 1999.

Seen breeding in 1,000s on Adele Island, Lacepede Islands.  Large numbers seen at Ashmore Reef.  Common in Broome harbour.  A few seen at Port Warrender on the way to Steep Island.  A few off the Pilbara coast in October 2000.

Seen breeding in Perth at Booragoon Lake, and at Argyle Diamond Mine.  Fairly common at Kununurra, Swan River, Fremantle harbour, Hillarys boat harbour, Broome harbour.

 

Little Pied Cormorant

Phalacrocorax melanoleucos

Seen breeding at Booragoon Lake, mangroves on Wooded Island at the Abrolhos Islands.

 

Black-faced Cormorant (photograph)

Phalacrocorax fuscescens

Fairly common on the islands off Esperance.  Seen at Cape Le Grande.

 

Pied Cormorant

Seen breeding at Adele Island, Lake Argyle, mangroves on Wooded Island at the Abrolhos Islands.  Common along most of the WA coast.  A few seen on Lake Kununurra and at the diversion dam.

Seen breeding at Booragoon Lake.  Often seen in feeding flocks of 100+ in the Swan River.  Seen at Argyle Diamond Mine, Kununurra, Broome.

 

Great Cormorant (photograph)

Fairly common on river estuaries in the south west.  Seen breeding at Booragoon Lake.  A few seen at the diversion dam in Kununurra.

 

Australian Pelican (photographs)

Pelecanus conspicillatus

Seen breeding at Adele Island, Lacepede Islands, Albany.  Common in small numbers at the Argyle Diamond Mine, Lake Kununurra, Roebuck Bay, Swan River.  Seen at Lake McLarty, Mandurah, Augusta.

Rare in WA. ~100 seen breeding on Adele Island in May 1993.  A few seen at Adele Island and between Scott Reef and Ashmore Reef in November 1999.

 

Lesser Frigatebird (photograph)

Fregata ariel

Seen breeding in 1,000s on Adele Island, Lacepede Islands.  Fairly common at Broome (especially Cable Beach, Barred Creek).  Seen on pelagic trip to Ashmore Reef in October 1996 and November 1999.
